- No, you do not have to stay fasting before all lab tests. The few important blood tests which required fasting like Lipid Profile, Fasting Blood Glucose etc.

- Minimum 8-10 hours fasting is required for Fasting Blood Glucose. Do not smoke, food or drink other than water or exercise during your fast. Any of these elements can adversely affect on your test results.

- For blood Glucose post meal one should note the time of completion of meal and report to the lab exactly after two hours. For post glucose time is noted after drinking the required amount of glucose and then exactly at two hours one should report to the lab. For both these tests it is very important that one does not eat or drink anything during the two hours except for water.

- Minimum 8-10 hours fasting is required (do not smoke, food or drink except water). A blood sample will be drawn and tested in fasting. Then you will be given a special drink (after this drink, no food or drink except water till you complete the test). Your blood will be drawn once each hour after you finish the drink. Your doctor will decide how many hours you will be tested.

- No special patient preparation is required. This test is done without regard to the time of day or time of last meal. You do not need to fast before this test. You will be given a special drink and your blood will be drawn one hour after you finish the drink.

- Minimum 10-12 hours fasting is required prior to Lipid Profile. Do not smoke, food or drink other than water or exercise during your fast. Any of these elements can adversely affect your test results.

- No, only Total Cholesterol test does not need fasting but Cholesterol along with Lipid Profile needs 10-12 hours fasting.

- Your doctor will advise whether you need to stop taking your medication. Please check with your doctor if you are unsure.

- Ensure proper cleaning of genital area with water, allow the initial stream of urine to pass then collect the urine in a sterile container. After collection of required urine sample the specimen should be return to the laboratory as soon as possible.

- Upon arising in the morning, urinate into the toilet, emptying your bladder completely. Do not collect this sample. Note the exact time. Collect all urine voided for 24-hours after this time in the container provided by laboratory. All urine passed during the 24-hours times period (day and night) must be saved. Be careful not to contaminate urine specimen with feces. Refrigerate the collected urine between all voiding or keep in a cool place. At exactly the same time in the following morning, void complete urine in the same container. This completes your 24-hour collection.

- Refrain from sexual intercourse or masturbation for 2-3 days. Produce the sample by masturbation without artificial lubricant. Bring the sample to the laboratory within half hour of collection.

- No special precaution need to be taken for all Ultrasound study except some parts of body like Abdomen and Pelvic.
Abdominal Ultrasound:- For Abdominal Ultrasound of Liver, Gall Bladder, Spleen and Pancreas you may be asked to eat a fat-free meal on the evening before the test and then to avoid eating for 8-10 hours before the test.
Pelvic Ultrasound:- For Pelvic Ultrasound of the Kidneys, Urinary Bladder, Uterus and Ovaries you may be asked to drink 4-6 glasses of water about an hour before the test to fill your bladder. You may be asked to avoid eating for 8-10 hours before the test to avoid gas buildup in the intestine.
